ASHLAND, Ohio – In a showdown between two nationally ranked programs, the No. 10 West Liberty Hilltoppers battled hard but came up short against No. 21 Ashland, falling 28-18 in Friday night's dual.
West Liberty started strong as Logan Davis secured a 12-4 major decision to put the Toppers on the board early. At 141 lbs., Khyvon Grace dominated with a 15-0 technical fall, continuing the early momentum for WLU.
Later in the dual, Carter Winegardner (174 lbs.) picked up another convincing win with a 22-7 technical fall, racking up 15 points in the process.
Top-ranked 184-pounder Ty McGeary added another victory to his stellar season, claiming a 12-4 major decision for his 21st win of the year. McGeary now holds an outstanding 53-1 record over the past two seasons.
Despite the individual successes, Ashland capitalized in key matchups to take the team victory. The Hilltoppers now turn their focus to the John Summa Invitational in Berea, Ohio, on Saturday at 9 a.m.
