Bridgeport, W.Va. – Behind a dominant pitching performance from Kadence Pettit and a pair of home runs from Emily Allen, West Liberty rolled to an 8-0 shutout victory over Malone on Friday in their first game of the Regional Roundup at The Bridge Sports Complex.
Allen delivered a season-best performance at the plate, driving in six runs on two homers, while Pettit allowed just one hit in six innings of work to secure the run-rule victory.
The Hilltoppers (3-4) broke the game open in the third inning. Jaden Conrad's sacrifice fly brought home Caroline Woody for the game's first run before Allen launched a two-run homer to right-center, capping a four-run frame.
West Liberty struck again in the sixth, as Allen crushed her second home run of the day—a grand slam—to extend the lead to 8-0 and put the game out of reach.
Sydney Johnson added a pair of hits and scored twice, while Alayna Cook drew two walks and crossed the plate twice.
Pettit (2-1) was in complete control from the circle, striking out one and walking two while keeping Malone's offense silent. The Pioneers (1-1) managed just one hit, a single from Faith Yoho, and never advanced a runner past second base.
Mia Rose (1-1) took the loss for Malone, allowing five hits and eight runs (seven earned) over six innings, striking out 11 but walking six.
The Hilltoppers will play a pair of games Saturday, Lincoln University at 9 a.m. and IUP at 4:30 p.m.
