Triadelphia, W.Va. - West Liberty softball opened its 2025 season with a tough doubleheader loss to the University of Indianapolis (UIndy) at Highlands Sports Complex. The Greyhounds took both games behind strong pitching and timely hitting.
Game 1: UIndy 6, West Liberty 0
UIndy took control early, scoring five runs in the second inning. Cara Cooper doubled to bring in a run, followed by a two-run single from Jocelyn Calvin and an RBI single from Brooklyn Willis. Shelby Cook capped the scoring with a solo home run in the seventh.
West Liberty's offense struggled to find momentum against UIndy ace Cheyenne Eads, who tossed a three-hit shutout while striking out 11.
For the Hilltoppers, Leah Alford took the loss, allowing five runs (one earned) over two innings, while Madison Angus provided five solid relief innings, giving up just one run on two hits.

The second game was a pitching duel, with UIndy pushing across a run in the third when Cara Cooper drew a bases-loaded walk. The Greyhounds added an insurance run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Cheyenne Eads.
Jayden Casebolt allowed just five hits while striking out seven in a complete-game shutout for the Greyhounds.
For West Liberty, Ashlyn Tapman (2.2 IP, 1 ER, 3 K) took the loss, while Kadence Pettit (3.1 IP, 1 ER) and Madison Angus (1 IP, 0 ER) kept the Hilltoppers within striking distance.
