Painesville, Ohio — The West Liberty University wrestling team battled through a challenging road dual Wednesday night, falling 35–6 to Lake Erie College.
The Hilltoppers faced an early uphill climb as the Storm claimed victories in five of the opening six bouts. Despite the result, West Liberty showed resilience in the middle of the lineup, picking up two hard-earned decisions to halt Lake Erie's momentum.
At 165 pounds, Tyson Mills put together a strong performance, earning a 7–4 decision over Josh Jordan to put the Hilltoppers on the board. Mills controlled the pace throughout the bout and finished with timely takedowns to secure the win.
West Liberty followed with another solid effort at 174 pounds, where Gabe Blissenbach delivered a 6–1 decision against Marky Stankorb and helped West Liberty close the gap midway through the dual.
Lake Erie extended its advantage in the upper weights, including a fall at 197 pounds and a forfeit at heavyweight, sealing the team score at 35–6.
West Liberty will look to bounce back quickly as the Hilltoppers return home Sunday, hosting the Hilltopper Duals at the ASRC. Action is set to begin Sunday morning as West Liberty welcomes multiple opponents to campus.
