The No. 19-ranked West Liberty University men's wrestling team continued its early-season dual slate on Friday afternoon with a special outdoor matchup at Millersville University, held in conjunction with a memorial event honoring former Marauder wrestler and fallen police officer Cody Becker '08.
The dual, contested at Cooper Park, followed a touching ceremony celebrating Becker's life and legacy. A two-time NCAA Championships qualifier and respected public servant, Becker tragically lost his life in the line of duty on Sept. 17, 2025, at the age of 39. The pre-match ceremony featured the Pennsylvania State Ceremonial Unit presenting the colors, a state police helicopter landing, and remarks from former teammate and Millersville Hall of Famer Jarrett Hostetter '10, former head coach Neil Barnes, and retired chief of police Mark Bentzel.
Once the wrestling began, the Hilltoppers battled hard throughout the afternoon but came up short in a 31–9 setback to the host Marauders. West Liberty picked up wins in three of the 10 contested bouts, with Caiden Harbert (125), Bodie Morgan (157), and Gabe Blissenbach (174) each earning decisions.
Harbert opened the dual with a strong 7–3 decision over Gavin Boland to give the Hilltoppers an early lead. Morgan continued the momentum at 157 pounds, grinding out a 5–1 decision against Chase Bish. Blissenbach followed with another solid effort, taking down Jack Weldon 7–3 at 174.
In extra matches, Tyson Mills recorded a fall in just 2:34 at 165 pounds, adding another highlight to the day for the Hilltoppers.
West Liberty returns to action next Saturday at the JWU Quad in Providence, R.I.
