WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — After dominating his way through the Johnson & Wales (R.I.) Quad with a perfect performance, West Liberty University redshirt sophomore Oliver Byerly has been selected as the Hilltopper of the Week.
Byerly was a driving force behind the Hilltoppers' 4–0 sweep in Providence, finishing the day undefeated at 4–0 while competing at both 184 and 197 pounds. The Plain City, Ohio native delivered a complete performance across all four duals, recording two pins, a pivotal early win, and multiple momentum-shifting efforts that powered West Liberty past Johnson & Wales, Castleton, Stevens Tech, and Coast Guard.
He opened the event with one of the most important victories of the day—a gritty 8–4 decision against Johnson & Wales that proved decisive in the narrow 17–16 team win over the host Wildcats. Byerly stayed hot in the second dual, adding a 5–1 decision against Castleton to help the Hilltoppers roll to a 31–6 victory.
His most dominant moment came in the third dual, where he planted his Stevens Tech opponent in just 1:59, one of the fastest falls of the event. Byerly closed out his undefeated run with another strong showing in the finale against Coast Guard, securing West Liberty's perfect day.
The Hilltoppers return to the mat this weekend at the Baldwin Wallace Invite.
