WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — The West Liberty University women's soccer team will close out its 2025 home slate Sunday afternoon, hosting Fairmont State on Senior Day at the West Family Athletic Complex. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
Prior to the match, West Liberty will honor seven seniors who have made lasting contributions to the program — Ellinor Jansson, Abby Barki, Marisa Knouff, Bea Allan, Maya Taggart, Holly Brighton, and Dena Stallings.
The Hilltoppers (3-12-1, 1-10-1 MEC) enter Sunday's contest coming off a 1-1 draw at Point Park on Wednesday. Emma Lieu netted her second goal of the season in that match, while goalkeeper Cianna Butera made several key saves to preserve the result.
Offensively, Perla Bäckberg leads West Liberty with six goals and 13 points, followed closely by Maya Taggart, who has recorded five goals and two assists. The Hilltoppers have scored nine goals over their last three outings, highlighted by a 9-0 win at Salem on Oct. 26 — their most dominant performance of the season.
Fairmont State (12-1-2, 9-1-2 MEC) comes to the Hilltop riding a three-game win streak and recently appeared in the first NCAA Atlantic Regional Rankings released Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons, who currently sit atop the MEC North Division, are led by Montserrat Díaz and Valentina Gianinetto, who have combined for 19 goals and 12 assists this season.
Sunday's match will serve as both a celebration and a challenge for the Hilltoppers, who look to close their home schedule on a high note and honor a senior class that has shown leadership, perseverance, and pride throughout their time on the Hilltop.
Following Sunday's home finale, West Liberty will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Wheeling University.
