WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — The West Liberty University women's soccer team returns home Wednesday to host Glenville State in Mountain East Conference play at the West Family Athletic Complex. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
The Hilltoppers (1-8, 0-6 MEC) look to bounce back after a narrow 2-1 loss to West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday. Senior forward Perla Bäckberg continued her strong season with her team-leading fourth goal, while Holly Brighton added her second assist of the year. Bäckberg ranks among the MEC's top scorers and has recorded three game-winning goals this season.
West Liberty has seen balanced offensive contributions, with Abby Kightlinger, Rylyn Bielinski, Kallie McCutcheon, and Dena Stallings also finding the back of the net this fall. Goalkeeper Cianna Butera leads the defensive unit with 69 saves through nine matches, ranking among the conference's top shot-stoppers.
Glenville State (2-6-1, 2-4-1 MEC) enters Wednesday's contest riding a two-match unbeaten streak after earning a 2-0 win at Point Park on Sunday. Forward Solares Solano has been the Pioneers' offensive spark, tallying four goals on the season, while Lucia Lopez anchors the defense with a .731 save percentage in goal.
West Liberty has found success in the series in recent years, winning three of the last six meetings, including a 2-0 home victory in 2022.
