West Liberty Rallies for 1–1 Draw at Point Park

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — West Liberty and Point Park battled to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday at Highmark Stadium. West Liberty's goal came in the second half, leveling the score after Point Park took an early lead. Hilltoppers' goalkeeper Cianna Butera recorded nine saves, including seven crucial stops in the second half, to preserve the tie.

West Liberty opened the match with an early shot attempt by Maya Taggart at 1:16, which was saved by the Pioneers' goalkeeper, Nicole Kuchinski. Throughout the period, West Liberty continued to press, with shots from Ellinor Jansson and Perla Bäckberg challenging the opposing defense. Despite their efforts, West Liberty was unable to convert these opportunities into a goal.

Point Park took advantage of their chances, scoring the only goal of the period at 23:49 through Maria Gomez, assisted by Austyn Burkett. The first half concluded with West Liberty trailing 1-0.

In the second half, West Liberty's Emma Lieu scored at the 55:16 mark, leveling the score at 1-1 with the Pioneers. This goal was crucial in shifting the momentum after a series of attempts from both teams. West Liberty's Cianna Butera made several key saves, thwarting multiple shots from the Pioneers to maintain the equal scoreline. The half concluded with a 1-1 tie, ending the game with this final score.

Butera recorded seven of her saves in the second half. Emma Lieu scored the team's only goal, converting both of her shots into shots on goal. Maya Taggart led the team in offensive attempts with five shots, three of which were on target.

Looking ahead, West Liberty will face off against Fairmont State on Sunday, Nov. 2, in West Liberty, W.Va. The match is set to begin at 4 p.m. ET as they look to secure a victory on their home turf.
