WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – Junior defender Jasper Newton has been named the latest men's Hilltopper of the Week after delivering the decisive moment in West Liberty's 1–0 victory over Davis & Elkins.
Newton scored the game-winning goal with less than 30 seconds remaining in the opening half, securing a statement win for the Hilltoppers over the Senators. The Stockport, England native showcased his versatility and calm under pressure, pushing forward from his defensive role to finish one of West Liberty's best team sequences of the season.
The junior played all 90 minutes in both matches last week, anchoring the back line while also contributing offensively. He totaled four shots for the week, including three on goal, and was a major reason the Hilltoppers limited Davis & Elkins' attack throughout the match.
On the season, Newton has started 12 of 13 matches, he's logged more than 1,100 minutes and continues to be one of the Hilltoppers' most reliable two-way players.
