WEST LIBERTY,  W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's soccer team faces another tough non-conference opponent tomorrow when they travel to Johnstown, Pennsylvania for a matchup against Pitt-Johnstown. The match was moved to Richland Hiigh School in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Due to the relocation of venues, live video of tomorrow's  match will not be available. Live statistics are available at hilltoppersports.com. Kickoff between the HIlltoppers and Mountain Cats is slated for 2:00 p.m.

WEST LIBERTY STORYLINES:

• First-year Head Coach Peter McMememy and the Hilltoppers are coming off an 2023 campaign that ended on a high note with the WLU squad's first postseason appearance since the 2018 season

• The Hilltoppers were victorious seven times during the 2023 season, the most wins in program history since the team's inception in 2012 

• Midfielders Jori Alexander and Amelia Compston were selected All-MEC Honorable Mention in 2023 

• The Hilltoppers were picked third in the MEC North Division of the Mountain East Conference Preseason Poll

• The Hilltoppers controlled the pace of play most the second half in their non-conference opener against Seton Hill (Pa.), but couldn't overcome the first half Griffin goal  

• Senior midfielder Morgan Kost took three shots and came up just short on her two shot-on-goal attempts in the opener 

• Cianna Butera faced 17 Griffin shots and recorded 5 saves in her collegiate debut 

PITT-JOHNSTOWN STORYLINES:

• Pitt-Johnstown finished the 2023 season with an overall record of 3-10-5

•  The Mountain Cats are 1-0 on the 2024 season after defeating Mountain East Conference member Davis & Elkins Thursday afternoon, 1-0 

• The Mountain Cats were picked to finish 8th in the PSAC West Division Preseason Coaches Poll 

• Coach Aideen O'Donoghue enters her first season as Head Soccer coach for the Mountain Cats 

SERIES HISTORY:

• The Hilltoppers and Mountain Cats have met twice, with Pitt-Johnstown holding a 1-0-1 edge. On September 26, 2012, Pitt-Johnstown claimed a 2-0 victory, while last season's matchup ended in  tie, 2-2 at West Family Athletic Complex last season. Asia Espiritu and Amelia Compston were goal scorers for the Black and Gold during that encounter.
