Indiana, Pa.- The West Liberty University men's golf team closed out the first round of the Cecil C. Spadafora IUP Invitational with a team score of 303 (+19) for fifth place in the 36-hole tournament. The Hilltoppers were led by
Awethu Mkhwanazi who is in a tie for ninth place after shooting a season-low round of 72 (+1) at the Indiana Country Club on Monday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Awethu Mkhwanazi opened the day at three under par with seven consecutive holes of par or better. He ended the day with a season-low 18-hole score of 72 (+1) as he finished the opening round in a tie for ninth place. He totaled scores of par or better on 13 holes during the day, including four birdies.
- Ethan Cook was second among Hilltopper golfers with an opening round 76 (+5) as he ended the day with five consecutive holes of par of better scores. Overall, he scored par or better on 13 holes during the first round, which included four birdies.
- Bo Orecchio ended Monday afternoon in a tie for 38th place as he carded a 77 (+6) at the Indiana Country Club. He turned in scores or par or better on ten of the 18 holes on day one, including one birdie and an eagle on hole 11.
- Derek Graham finished the day close behind Cook and Orecchio, as he was only two and one shot back respectively from the pair. He carded a first round score of 78 (+7) for a tie for 50th and scored par or better on ten of the 18 holes played on Monday, including one birdie.
- Rounding out the West Liberty lineup was Noah Seivertson as he carded an opening round score of 83 (+12). He scored par on ten of the 18 holes on the course at the Indiana Country Club.Â
