West Liberty, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's golf team will look to make a push for the postseason as they play their second to last tournament of the regular season this week, competing at the Cecil C. Spadafora IUP Invitational, hosted by Indiana (PA). Round one for the Hilltoppers will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 15, while round two is slated for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16, at the Indiana Country Club in Indiana, Pennsylvania.
WEST LIBERTY STORYLINES
- West Liberty's Derek Graham, an All-MEC Second Team selection, will be the number one golfer in the lineup following his second consecutive top-10 finish in a tie for sixth place at the Mercyhurst Spring Invitational where he carded 151 (+7). His season-low 36-hole score was a139 (-3) at the MEC Spring Classic where he also finished in a tie for sixth. He has the lowest round score shot by a Hilltopper this season of 66 at the UC invitational, leading to a season low 54-hole score of 214 (+4) back in September. He has notched six rounds of even or under par, two rounds in the 60s, and a stroke average of 75.5 in 26 rounds played this season.
- Moving into WLU lineup as the number two golfer will be Awethu Mkhwanazi, who carded a 158 (+14) in his last outing as an individual at the Mercyhurst Spring Invitational for a tie for 25th place. He recorded a season-low 36-hole score of 149 (+7) to finish 26th at the MEC Spring Classic last week. His 2023-24 low round was a 75 (+3) and his best 54-hole score was 230 (+14) at the West Liberty Invitational back in September. He has a stroke average of 77.1 in 11 rounds played this season.
- Ethan Cook jumps into the Hilltopper lineup as the number three golfer after he carded a 154 (+10) as he recorded a tie for 15th place. He earned his best finish of the year in his spring debut with a 143 (+1) for a 12th place tie at the MEC Spring Classic as an individual. He posted a season-low round score of 70 (-2) at the West Liberty Invitational in September and has a season-low 54-hole score of 219 (+3) at the Dr. Walley Edgell Invitational back in September. He has recorded three rounds of even or under par and has a stroke average of 77.0 in 16 rounds played this season.
- Bo Orecchio, who also earned All-MEC honors last week with an honorable mention selection, will be in the number four spot in the lineup for West Liberty. He carded his first top-5 finish of the year with a fifth place finish and a 36-hole score of 150 (+6) at the Mercyhurst Spring Invitational. At the MEC Spring Classic he turned in a season-low 36-hole score of 144 (+2) for a tie for 16th place. He has a season-low round score of 69 that led to a season-best 54-hole score of 223 (+13) at the UC Invitational back in September. He has carded one round of even or under par, one round in the 60s, and a stroke average of 76.6 in 26 rounds played this season.
- Noah Seivertson rounds out the Hilltopper lineup as he is coming off a 166 (+22) performance at the Mercyhurst Spring Invitational which placed him in a tie for 39th on the player leaderboard. He carded a season-low 36-hole score of 144 (+2) at the MEC Spring Classic which resulted in a tie for 16th place. He shot a low round of 70 and a 54-hole score of 216 at the Dr. Walley Edgell Invitational back in September. He has notched three rounds of even or under par and a stroke average of 77.5 in 24 rounds played this season.
