West Liberty, W.Va.- Mia Zecca's free kick goal in the 86th minute broke a 1-1 deadlock between West Liberty and Wheeling, lifting the Hilltoppers to 2-1 victory over the Cardinals. For Zecca it was her eighth goal of the season tying her with Ellie Cunningham for the team lead.
West Liberty took the lead early when Morgan Stauver scored her first goal of the season in the third minute. The Cardinals would respond quickly in the fifth minute to tie the game at one.
With the win the Toppers swept the regular season series with the Cards. WLU finishes as the No.3 seed in the north division and will face No.2 seed in the south division West Virginia State, Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Mountain East Conference quarterfinals.
West Liberty ends the regular season at 8-8-4, 6-6-3.
