HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Pitt-Johnstown put the first goal of the game on the board in the 19th minute, as Abby Jackson found Sophia Lamesta cutting towards the goal and she was able to get the shot over the head of Libby Finn who was charging to make the save.
  • West Liberty tied the game at one in the 40th minute, as Asia Espiritu found the back of the net for the first time in her young Hilltopper career. The freshman was able to collect a pass in transition from Isabella Aperfine and proceeded to cross the ball over to her left foot behind the UPJ defender and place the ball past the outstretched arms of the Mountain Cat goalkeeper. The play was set up with the defense of Kate Gribben who was able to poke the ball away from UPJ's Lexi Stevens trying to push the ball up the field.
  • After entering the halftime break with a 1-1 tie, the Mountain Cats once again struck first in the second half as Jackson collected her second assist of the contest, finding Haley Neidig who was able to cut through a pair of WLU defenders and find the bottom left corner of the net.
  • Finn was able to make a pair of critical saves in the second half, allowing the Hilltoppers to stay within striking distance. Amelia Compston drew the Black & Gold back even at two goals apiece in the 86th minute as she found a lane past the defender on the end line and snuck a shot inside the near post against UPJ's Parker Grimm in goal.
  • Pitt-Johnstown held the advantage in shots (16-14) and shots-on-goal (7-5), while West Liberty held the edge in corner kicks (3-2).
