Hilltoppers Travel to Face No. 15 Charleston

West Liberty, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's soccer team is set to face the MEC South Division leaders, No. 15 Charleston on Wednesday afternoon. The Hilltoppers and Golden Eagles are slated for a 4 p.m. kickoff at the Welch Athletic Complex in Charleston.

WEST LIBERTY STORYLINES
  • West Liberty enters Sunday's match with a record of 2-3-2 (1-2-1 MEC) on the season and are fourth in the North Division of the Mountain East Conference standings with four points.
  • The Hilltoppers battled to a draw in their most recent match on Sunday afternoon against Wheeling (3-3). The Black & Gold fought back from a 2-0 second half deficit with goals by Morgan Kost, Amelia Compston, and Mia Zecca to force a tie after 90 minutes of game time.
  • Kost and Compston are tied for the team lead with four goals apiece, which is also tied for the third most in the MEC this season. Two of Kost's goals have been game-winners, placing her in a tie for the most in the conference. Zecca and Asia Espiritu have also found the back of the net three times for WLU.
  • Compston is tied for fourth in the conference with three assists this season, while Farley and Zecca are tied for sixth in the MEC with two assists on the year.
  • With four goals and three assists, Compston leads the team with 11 points through seven matches and is tied for third in the MEC. Zecca (3 goals, 2 assists) and Kost (4 goals) are tied for second on the team with eight points.
  • Zara Wickert started the last five games in goal for West Liberty and has made six appearances on the season, totaling 471 minutes of playing time while making 32 saves on 85 shots faced. Wickert has posted a .821 save percentage and a 1.34 goals against average. She currently ranks second in total saves (32) and third in both saves per game (5.33) and save percentage (0.821) in the MEC.

#15 CHARLESTON STORYLINES
  • Charleston enters Wednesday's match with a record of 5-0-2 (4-0-1 MEC) on the season and is first in the South Division of the Mountain East Conference standings.
  • The Golden Eagles saw their 4-game MEC win streak come to an end on Sunday as they battled to a 1-1 draw against West Virginia State.
  • UC moved up two spots in this week's United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Rankings on Tuesday afternoon, going from No. 17 to No. 15.
  • With four goals, Juliette Lucas and Sophia Mankowski are tied for the team lead and third in the MEC.
  • Lina Jaime has also found the back of the net three times and has notched team-best five assists, totaling a team-high 11 points on the year. She is tied for the league lead in assists and is tied for second in points.
  • Jordan Maynard has started all seven matches for UC this season, totaling 585 minutes while making 20 saves on 54 shots faced. She has posted a 0.870 save percentage and 0.46 goals against average. Maynard holds the conference lead in save percentage (0.870), is tied for the league-high in shutouts (3) and is second in the conference in goals against average (0.462).
  • The Golden Eagles are second in the MEC in goals forced (21), scoring average (3.00), fewest goals allowed (3), opponent scoring average (0.43), and scoring margin (2.57).
  • Through seven matches this season Charleston has held the advantage in goals (21-3), assists 13-3), shots (100-55), shots-on-goal (58-23), and corner kicks (334-18), while the Golden Eagle's opponents hold the edge in saves (37-20).
