INDIANA, Pa. – Nationally-ranked Indiana (Pa.) handed the West Liberty University women's tennis team a 6-1 setback here Sunday in a showdown between two of the top four teams in the Atlantic Region.
The host Crimson Hawks (11-9), who came into the match ranked No. 41 nationally and No. 2 in the Atlantic Region, took control early by sweeping all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead into singles play.
Coach Heather Gallagher's Hilltoppers (11-6), who checked in at No. 4 in the most recent set of NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rankings, couldn't get anything going in the six singles matches.
Indiana (Pa.) posted straight-set wins in five of the singles matches but West Liberty's Ishika Agarwal denied the hosts a shutout victory.
Agarwal, a junior from Hyderabad, India, had no trouble breezing past IUP veteran Laura Dunarova in their No. 6 singles match, handing the graduate student from Kotlotovce, Slovakia a 6-2 6-2 loss.
The West Liberty women close out the regular season on Tuesday with a non-conference match against Bluefield State in Vienna, W.Va.
