PHILIPPI, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team dropped both ends of a Mountain East Conference doubleheader at Alderson Broaddus on Saturday.
The host Battlers (5-15, 2-2) eked out a 1-0 decision in the first game before handing Coach Herb Minch's Hilltoppers (4-18, 0-2) an 8-3 setback in the finale.
In the second game, Alderson Broaddus took control early, scoring seven of its eight runs in the first three innings.
Mallory Rosnick got WLU on the board with an RBI double in the top of the fifth and Sara Simon cranked out a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh but it was too little, too late for the Black and Gold.
The Battlers' Lakyn Blackburn broke up a scoreless tie with an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to account for the lone scoring in a briskly-played opener. Riley Conkle had two of West Liberty's four hits.
The Hilltoppers are back on the MEC road Wednesday afternoon for a make-up doubleheader at Notre Dame. First pitch is set for noon in South Euclid, Ohio.
