WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The West Liberty University men's tennis team went on the road Saturday and picked up a 6-1 victory over Bloomsburg.
The Hilltoppers took 2-of-3 matches in doubles to earn the first point of the day, then rolled to wins in five of the six singles events.
Roberto Esquivel and
Derek Roehner won the top-spot in doubles 6-2 and the duo of
Moritz Erpel and Gianluca Gerdnt swept their opposition in the #3 position, 6-0.
Erpel handled the Huskies top ranked singles player in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0.
Nevio Dux dominated in the #2 spot with a 6-0, 6-1 sweep. Gerdnt battled out a 6-4 win in the first set, then came back with a 6-2 win to claim singles #3. Bloomsburg got on the board in the #4 position, then the Hilltoppers put the match away with sweeps by Roehner (6-2, 7-5) and Esquivel (6-2, 6-2) in the final two singles matches.
West Liberty will head south for spring break and compete in five matches from March 3-9. First up a pit stop at Shaw University in Raleigh, N.C. for a match on Friday before going to Orlando, Fla for four matches.
