WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The West Liberty University softball team fell, 6-1, in its final game of the weekend in Florida at Palm Beach Atlantic Sunday afternoon.
The Sailfish (5-4) capitalized on both of the West Liberty errors in the second and fourth innings rallying for six runs. Palm Beach Atlantic posted a five-spot in the fourth inning to ultimately put the game out of reach. PBA had a sac fly in the bottom of the second then plated five off three hits in the fourth.
The Hilltoppers (1-6) got runners on base in all seven innings and were in scoring position in six of the seven innings, but could not capitalize, leaving nine runners on base throughout the game.
Riley Conkle hit a two-out double in the top of the seventh driving in
Sidney Little for the Black and Gold's only run.Â
Conkle finished the day 2-for-3 including the RBI double. Little ended 2-for-4 scoring the lone run.
Ashlyn Tapman and
Anna Welsh both went 1-for-1 at the plate, with Welsh belting a pinch-hit double in the top of the sixth.
Tapman started and suffered the loss in the circle, throwing four complete innings allowing six runs, however only one was earned.
Brooke Perri and
Madison Angus split the final two innings tossing scoreless frames.
West Liberty will be off for 13 days until another trip down south. Back to South Carolina the Hilltoppers will go over the weekend of February 25-26 for four games split between Bloomsburg University and the hosts Francis Marion.
