Hilltopper Women’s Soccer Hosts Frostburg State for Senior Day

West Liberty, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's soccer team will look to continue their strong play at the West Family Athletic Complex on Sunday afternoon as they host Frostburg State for the final regular season home contest in 2023. The Hilltoppers and Bobcats are set for a 1 p.m. kickoff as WLU will recognize a trio of seniors prior to the start of the match.

GAME DETAILS WEST LIBERTY STORYLINES
  • West Liberty enters Sunday's match with a record of 6-7-3 (4-6-2 MEC) on the season and is fourth in the North Division of the Mountain East Conference standings with 14 points.
  • The Hilltoppers snapped a 3-game losing streak on Wednesday evening as they went on the road to complete the season sweep of Salem. Morgan Kost and Amelia Compston scored a pair of goals late in the second half to secure the 2-0 win.
  • The win over the Tigers helped West Liberty match the program record for wins in a season, as the Hilltoppers previously recorded six wins on five occasions in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2021. WLU also enters the final home match of the season with a record of 4-1-3, which is one win shy of tying the school record for home wins in a season that was set in 2021 with five.
  • Compston leads the team and ranks ninth in the MEC with eight goals this season while Kost has added seven on the year. Kost is also tied for second in the conference with four game-winning goals on the year. Kost is the only player in WLU history to record multiple multi-goal games in a single season, with two against Salem and West Virginia State.
  • Eight other Hilltoppers have found the back of the net in 2023, with Mia Zecca (4), Asia Espiritu (4), Isabella Aperfine (3), Katie Farley (3), Maya Taggart (2), and Ellie Cunningham (2) each scoring multiple goals.
  • Compston has recorded a team-best four assists and is one of 12 players to record an assist for the Black & Gold this season. Aperfine is second on the team with three while Farley, Zecca, Rileigh Gualtiere, and Maya Taggart have each collected a pair of assists.
  • Overall, Compston is responsible for a team-high of 20 points (8 goals, 4 assists) which is tied for eighth best in the conference, and Kost has added 15 points (7 goals, 1 assist).
  • Zara Wickert has started 13 games in goal for West Liberty and has made 14 appearances on the season, totaling 1,191 minutes of playing time while making 82 saves on 232 shots faced. Wickert has posted a 0.781 save percentage and a 1.74 goals-against average while recording three shutouts. She currently ranks second in the conference in total saves and has notched three double digit save performances this season.
  • Through 16 matches West Liberty has held the advantage over their opponents in goals (35-28), assists (21-17), shots-on-goal (128-123), corner kicks (73-67), and saves (94-93) while their opponents hold the edge in shots (262-230).
  • The Hilltoppers have set program records for most goals (35), assists (21), and points (91) in a season.
FROSTBURG STATE STORYLINES
  • Frostburg State enters Sunday's match with a record of 14-1-1 (10-1-1 MEC) on the season and have clinched their third consecutive MEC North Division Championship.
  • The Bobcats are currently receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 rankings and are fourth in the United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region Top-10 rankings. FSU also appeared as a team in consideration in the initial NCAA Regional Rankings announced on Wednesday.
  • Frostburg State won their fourth consecutive game with a 1-0 home win over Wheeling on Wednesday afternoon. The Bobcats have notched five consecutive shutouts, out-scoring their opponents 13-0 since a scoreless draw against West Virginia State on October 11.
  • Toni Fiocco-Mizer and Madi Allen are tied for the team lead with seven goals apiece in 2023, while Carly Gillette has found the back of the net five times. Fiocco Mizer is tied for second in the MEC with four game-winning goals and Madison Allen is tied for fourth with three game-winners.
  • Morgan Mrizek has tallied a team-best seven assists, which ranks third in the conference.
  • Fiocco-Mizer has recorded a team-best 17 points (7 goals, 3 assists) and Allen is second with 15 points (7 goals, 1 assist).
  • Ashley Bilger has started and played 14 games in goal for Frostburg State, totaling 1,199 minutes of playing time while making 24 saves on 64 shots faced. She has posted a 0.857 save percentage and a 0.30 goals-against average while recording eight solo and two combined shutouts. She leads the MEC in goals-against average and shutouts and is second in save percentage.
  • Through 16 matches the Bobcats have held the advantage in goals (40-4), assists (26-2), shots (406-67), shots-on-goal (208-31), and corner kicks (129-38) while their opponents hold the edge in saves (166-27).
  • Brian Parker is in his 22nd season as the head coach at Frostburg State with a career record of 272-119-45 during his time with the Bobcats.
SERIES HISTORY
  • Frostburg State holds the 6-1 advantage in the all-time series and has won six straight.
  • The Bobcats won the first meeting this season with a 3-0 victory on September 20 at Bobcat Stadium in Frostburg, Maryland.
