West Liberty Travels South for Final Cross-Division Match

West Liberty, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's soccer team will travel to Concord for their final cross-divisional match against MEC South Division opponents on Sunday afternoon. The Hilltoppers and Mountain Lions are set for a 1 p.m. kickoff at the Paul Cline Sports Complex in Beckley, West Virginia.

WEST LIBERTY STORYLINES
  • West Liberty enters Sunday's match with a record of 5-4-3 (4-3-2 MEC) on the season and is third in the North Division of the Mountain East Conference standings with 14 points.
  • The Hilltoppers are unbeaten in their last four matches with two consecutive wins. The Black & Gold defeated Davis & Elkins 2-0 on Wednesday evening to improve to 4-0-3 at the West Family Athletic Complex in 2023.
  • Amelia Compston and Morgan Kost are tied for the team lead with six goals this season, tying for seventh in the MEC. Kost is also tied for second in the conference with three game-winning goals on the year. Kost is also the only player in WLU history to record multiple multi-goal games in a single season, with two against Salem and West Virginia State.
  • Eight other Hilltoppers have found the back of the net in 2023, with Asia Espiritu (4), Katie Farley (3), Mia Zecca (3), Isabella Aperfine (2), and Ellie Cunningham (2) each scoring multiple goals.
  • Compston has recorded a team-best three assists, which is tied for tenth in the league. She is one of 11 players to record an assist for the Black & Gold this season. Farley, Zecca, Aperfine, Rileigh Gualtiere, and Maya Taggart have each collected a pair of assists.
  • Overall, Compston is responsible for a team-high 15 points (6 goals, 3 assists) and Kost has added 13 points (6 goals, 1 assist).
  • Zara Wickert has started ten games in goal for West Liberty and has made 11 appearances on the season, totaling 921 minutes of playing time while making 61 saves on 165 shots faced.   • The Mountain Lions went on the road to defeat Salem in their most recent match on Wednesday, winning 9-0 against the Tigers. CU has scored five or more goals in six matches this season.
  • Sydney Tucker leads the team with six goals and is tied for seven in the MEC. Kylene Franklin has found the back of the net five times this season, while Reeanna Cook, Wilma Hedenberg, Olivia Bekeleski, and Caitlin Webster have each scored four goals.
  • Michelle Brogden and Alexa Todd are tied for the team lead and second in the conference with five assists apiece. Franklin and Cook have each added three assists as well.
  • Tucker leads the team with 14 points (6 goals, 2 assists) while Franklin with 13 points (5 goals, 3 assists) is one of five other players with double digit points.
