WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. - The West Liberty women's soccer team is set to play its home opener tomorrow afternoon against non-conference foe Salem Univeristy. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm from West Family Athletic Complex.

West Liberty is coming off an eight day layoff since its season opener at Seton Hill on August 25. The Hilltoppers mustered just one shot on goal and three shots in the match in a defensive battle with the Griffins. Seton Hill scored in the  5th minute and again in the 74th off a defensive miscue. Freshman, Zara Wickert got the start in goal for the season opener and played all 90 minutes against the Griffins. She faced 10 shots, seven of which were on goal, making five saves and allowing two scores. Rileigh Gualtiere had the lone shot on goal of the three Hilltopper shots.

Salem enters the match with an 0-3 record in 2022, with just one goal to their name and 17 allowed. The Tigers won the lone previous matchup 3-2 in overtime, which took place in Salem during the 2018 season.

West Liberty is 3-4-2 all time in home openers. In recent history, the Hilltoppers have not won a home opener since 2017, a 1-0 win over California (Pa.). In 2018 they tied Davis & Elkins 0-0, while suffering defeats the past three years. Last season, the Hilltoppers lost their home opener, which was also the home opener, 1-0 to Seton Hill.
