Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Dominates Home Opener

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. - The West Liberty University men's soccer team began its home slate with a dominating win this evening. The Hilltoppers scored early and often to defeat the Concord Mountain Lions, 4-1, in front of the home crowd at West Family Athletic Complex.

West Liberty evens its record at 1-1 with this early, yet pivotal, Mountain East Conference match, while Concord drops to 0-1-2.

The Hilltoppers totaled nine shots in the match and four on goal, converting on each one of those four.

Mark Donnelly wasted no time putting the brand new Main Street Bank scoreboard to work in its first official match in use. Donnelly one-timed a pass across the box from Oskar Voges to get the Hilltoppers on the board just under three minutes into the match.

The Black and Gold found the back of the net again in the 15th minute off the foot of Daniel Rovira. Alex Anderson set Rovira up, who then split defenders and fired in the Hilltoppers second goal of the match for an early 2-0 lead.

The 'Topper defense allowed just two shots in the opening half and did not let one get on net.

West Liberty suffered a red card at the start of the half and was forced to play the final 45 minutes with 10 players.

A man down, no worries. Oskar Voges got the scoring started in the second half almost as quickly as Donnelly did in the first. Voges fielded a beautifully placed free kick from Vitor Otsuka and sniped it past the new Mountain Lion goalkeeper to the opposite post three minutes into the second half.

Ashton Farnsworth added insurance for the Hilltoppers on a 1v1 fast break in the 72nd minute.

An own goal wiped the clean sheet for West Liberty after a Concord corner kick in the 85th minute.

Noah Underwood manned the goal for all 90 minutes and made one save while disrupting Concord chances throughout the night.

West Liberty will continue its three game homestand with a match on Sunday against Frostburg State. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 pm from the West Family Athletic Complex.
