WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team dropped a 2-0 decision to Glenville State here Monday afternoon in the first game of a scheduled Mountain East Conference doubleheader at a rain-swept WLU Softball Complex.
The second game of the twinbill was halted by a heavy downpour shortly after getting under way. The game was canceled after a lengthy rain delay and will be rescheduled at a later date.
In the opener, a pair of Hilltopper errors in the top of the fourth gave the visitors a pair of unearned runs and that proved to be the only scoring of the game for either team.
Pioneer flamethrower Holly Brehm fired a five-hit shutout, striking out 11 West Liberty batters while giving up only one walk.
Grace Swigart had two of the Hilltoppers' five singles in a losing cause.
Hoping for better weather and better results, the WLU women head to Elkins on Friday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Davis & Elkins.
