WHEELING, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's tennis team continued its strong early-season play here Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 shutout of Frostburg State at Wheeling Park.
Coach Ronnie Hulewicz's Hilltoppers (5-0, 1-0) had no trouble remaining unbeaten as they breezed past the Bobcats (2-2, 1-0) in the mutual Mountain East Conference opener.
The Black and Gold took all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Nevio Dux and Isfan Makhumudov posted a 6-2 win at No. 1 singles with the pairing of Moritz Erpel and Gianluca Gerndt taking the No. 2 doubles match at love and love. Daisuke Aota and Derek Roehner were 6-3 winners at No. 3 doubles.
West Liberty didn't lose a set in singles play. Aota gave up only one point in a second-set tiebreaker to finish off his straight-set win. Makhumudov and Dux posted 6-0 6-0 wins at Nos. 3 and 5 singles, respectively, while Erpel and Gerndt each picked up their second wins of the day. Zarion Jones wrapped things up with a 6-2 6-4 victory at No. 6 singles.
