WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. - The 7th ranked West Liberty University wrestling team is back in action this afternoon on its home mat inside the ASRC taking on Findlay in its first home dual since November 10.
The Hilltoppers are coming off a stellar trip to South Carolina last Saturday, where they went 4-0 competing in the Carolina Clash Duals extending their dual win streak to 11 in a row. West Liberty rolled past its opponents in the morning then finished off the day with a thrilling, 18-17, win over T4th ranked Lander. Six Hilltoppers went undefeated at the event, headlined by
Ty McGeary with four wins, three of which were by pin.
The win streak began in the 'Toppers last home dual with a 30-9 beatdown of #21 Lake Erie College. West Liberty broke open a 6-6 tie with three-straight wins featuring a tech fall by
Jacob Simpson and overtime pin from
Jonah Smith at 157, then capped off the dual with three more wins in a row to take the home opener in convincing fashion.
Five nationally ranked wrestlers highlight the starting lineup for Head Coach
Danny Irwin's squad, all of which went unbeaten last weekend.
Cole Laya is atop the national rankings at 125 and picked up a pair of decisions in South Carolina. McGeary improved to 11-0 on the season last weekend with a 4-0 outing that featured three pins and is third in the 184 pound class.
Jamar Williams moved to 6-0 in bouts with a trio of decisions and is tabbed eighth at 157. Eighth ranked
Francesco Borsellino had a pin and the dual-deciding victory over T4th ranked Lander at 285.
Vincent Scollo rounds out the quintet of ranked 'Toppers with a #9 ranking in the 133 weight class.Â
Findlay was in the receiving votes category of the latest NWCA national rankings. The Oilers are 0-2 in duals this season, they are coming off a 30-9 loss at home to Pitt-Johnstown yesterday then dropped a 26-17 dual at Glenville State in early November. Hunter Reed (174) and Logan Sanom (157) lead the team ranking 7th and 11th nationally in their respective weight classes.
