ELKINS, W.Va. - The West Liberty University women's soccer team lost its match at Davis & Elkins tonight by a score of 5-0.
The teams were deadlocked for the first 39 minutes until the Senators executed a corner kick to get on the board. After the halftime break, D&E came out firing, totaling 20 shots in the final 45 minutes and scored four more times on way to the convincing win.
Davis and Elkins ended the match outshooting West Liberty 32-9. The Hilltoppers put six of their nine shots on goal, but could not get past the keeper.
Amelia Compston,
Ellie Cunningham, and
Marisa Knouff paced the offense with two shots each. Cunningham and Knouff put both of their attempts on target.
Facing a season-high amount of shots,
Zara Wickert made a career-high 14 saves for the Black and Gold.
West Liberty will take on Wheeling in its regular season finale on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 pm. The team will honor its senior class prior to the start of the match.
