Box Score BECKLEY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's soccer team found the net once in each half here Wednesday and cruised to a 2-0 shutout win against Concord in Mountain East Conference action at the Paul Cline Soccer Complex.
Coach
Sean Regan's Hilltoppers (2-1, 1-1) broke through in the 36th minute when
Vitor Otsuka sent a well-directed through ball to a streaking
Liam Toman as he sprinted into the box. Toman made it 1-0 with a clinical finish in the lower left corner of the cage.
The visitors added an insurance tally in the 68th minute when
Adam Lynch won a 50-50 ball near midfield and caught the Mountain Lions (0-3, 0-2) out of position with a long pass to the top of the box. Senior captain
Bernardo Vilchis ran onto the ball and walked in all alone on Concord keeper Sean Monro, beating the Mountain Lion netminder with a quick flick to the right side of the net.
That was more than enough breathing room for Hilltopper keeper
Noah Underwood, who delivered a couple of big saves down the stretch to keep the hosts off the board. Underwood finished with 6 total saves in earning his first clean sheet of the season.
The West Liberty men head to Maryland on Saturday for a 2 p.m. match against Frostburg State.
