Top 20 Finishes for Kemp, Harriman at Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Hannah Kemp and Michael Harriman posted Top 20 finishes and the West Liberty University men's cross country team placed in the top five of a loaded field at Saturday morning's LHU Invitational, hosted by Lock Haven (Pa.) University.
Held on the same course that will host the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional championships later this fall, the men's race attracted a stellar field. Six of the top 10 teams in the region – including Coach Justin Simpson's Hilltoppers and nationally-ranked (No. 25) Charleston – were joined by No. 18-ranked Walsh (Ohio) and Lebanon Valley (Pa.), a regionally-ranked NCAA Division III squad.
Charleston ran away with the team title. Walsh's Hunter Moore was the individual champion but UC claimed the next three spots and six of the top 11 to win with 28 points. Walsh ran second with 49 with Edinboro, ranked No. 2 in the region, third at 55. Slippery Rock (151) squeezed past West Liberty 163) for the fourth spot to round out the top five.
Harriman was 16th in a field of nearly 300 runners with a solid clocking of 25:29.2 for the 8K course. Jared Ullom was next across the line for the Black and Gold, placing 34th in 26:05.1. Philip White (39th) and Danah Phillips (41st) were close behind with Brenden Sands (56th) completing the scoring for WLU.
The women's race also brought in a strong regional field, bolstered by the addition of several entries from NCAA Division I programs.
Kemp was one of only three Mountain East Conference runners to crack the top 15 in a stampede of nearly 250 runners. She covered the 6K women's course in 22:10.8 to place 14th overall, just seconds behind the Charleston duo of Mercy Jepleting (10th) and Elise Leveel (11th). Savannah Moorehead was West Liberty's only other Top 100 finisher in the power-packed field, placing 97th in a time of 24:34.0.
The Walsh women's team posted a dominant win in the team standings with 52 points. Charleston (125), Seton Hill (132), Edinboro (178) and Slippery Rock (179) rounded out the top five. The Hilltoppers placed 18th out of 22 teams.
The West Liberty men and women return to the trails on Oct. 9 when they make the short trek to Pittsburgh to compete in the annual Carnegie Mellon Invitational.
