SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame (Ohio) men's soccer team exploded for four second-half goals here Tuesday, snapping a 2-2 halftime deadlock and pulling away to a 6-2 win against West Liberty in Mountain East Conference action at Mueller Field.
Coach
Sean Regan's Hilltoppers (2-3-0, 1-3-0) drew first blood when
Liam Toman banged home an unassisted goal in the 14th minute but the Falcons (1-1-0, 1-1-0) equalized in the 26th minute when Ailton Fagner Silva finished off an assist from Ned Dry.
The up-tempo pace slowed briefly when Notre Dame's Lukas Hackaa was awarded a penalty kick in the 32nd minute but the Black and Gold tied it at 2-2 just before halftime when
Bernardo Vilchis cashed in an
Adam Lynch assist in the 45th minute.
Unfortunately for the visitors, the second half belonged to the hosts as Dry put the Falcons ahead to stay just four minutes after the second half kickoff and goals from Taylor Dyson, Hackaa and Carlos Almeida closed out the scoring.
The West Liberty men will look to rebound on Sunday when they host Alderson Broaddus in a 1 p.m. match at the West Family Athletic Complex.
