WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – Two more West Liberty University student-athletes were honored on Thursday when
Hannah Kemp and
Michael Harriman were named to the 2021 NCAA Division II Academic All-District® Two Track and Field/Cross Country Team.
Selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the 2021 Academic All-District® Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined achievements on the field and in the classroom.
A sophomore from Bethesda, Ohio with a 3.96 GPA in Exercise Physiology, Kemp was the 2021 Mountain East Conference Cross Country Runner of the Year and was unbeaten in her three cross country meets during the abbreviated spring season. The two-time All-Atlantic Region distance ace excelled on the track, as well, setting school records at 1500, 5000 and 10000 meters while earning All-MEC honors in multiple events.
Harriman is a junior Finance major from Wheeling, W.Va. who has maintained a perfect 4.00 GPA throughout his West Liberty career. An All-Atlantic Region and All-Mountain East Conference honoree, Harriman posted one of the five fastest 800-meter times in the region during the 2021 spring outdoor season and was named to the MEC All-Academic Team for the third straight year.
With the selections of Kemp and Harriman, West Liberty has now had a record total of eight student-athletes earn Academic All-District® honors from CoSIDA during the 2020-21 academic year.
Dalton Bolon was honored as the NCAA Division II Academic All-American® of the Year for men's basketball while Clay McDonald also earned Academic All-America® honors for football. Joining Kemp and Harriman as Academic All-District selections were the softball duo of Makenzie Amend and Kat Donzella, national champion wrestler Cole Laya and Brian Campbell for baseball. In addition, Abbey Bauer of the WLU acrobatics & tumbling team was one of only eight NCAA student-athletes named to the prestigious NCATA All-Academic Team.
The 2021 Academic All-District® Two Track and Field/Cross Country Teams include student-athletes from the Mountain East Conference (MEC), Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA).
As first-team Academic All-District® selections, Kemp and Harriman automatically advance to the ballot for the 2021 NCAA Division II Academic All-America® Track and Field/Cross Country Team. Academic All-America® voting begins later this month.
