WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's soccer team closed out the home portion of its spring schedule on Monday with a 2-1 loss to Charleston on Senior Night at the West Family Athletic Complex.
    Departing seniors
Cate Calissie and
Katie Kota were honored prior to the match in a brief Senior Night ceremony.
The Golden Eagles (5-1-1) got off to a fast start against Coach
Barry Christmas's Hilltoppers (1-4-2). Sydney Cavender nodded in a header less than five minutes after the opening kickoff and added another in the 22nd minute for a 2-0 UC lead.
Calissie cut the lead in half just before intermission when she hammered home a penalty kick after
Kaelyn Oskin was fouled in the box but Charleston yielded no further scoring chances the rest of the night.
The Golden Eagles outshot the Hilltoppers by a 6-3 margin and had a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Olivia Montgomery had two saves in net for the hosts.
The WLU women close out the spring season on the road Friday night with a 7 p.m. match at Wheeling.
