WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – In accordance with state and local health and safety guidelines, West Liberty University athletic department has announced its spectator policies and protocols for outdoor sporting events during the 2020-21 spring semester.
The general guidelines and policies will apply to all sporting events held on the WLU campus throughout the spring semester. Additional sports-specific policies are currently included for men's and women's soccer, men's and women's tennis and softball. Enhanced policies and guidelines for football, baseball and men's and women's track and field will be added prior to their initial home events.
Please note that the Mountain East Conference's safe competition guidelines prohibiting spectators for MEC indoor sporting events remain in effect through the end of the semester. These sports include acrobatics and tumbling, men's and women's volleyball and men's and women's swimming.
West Liberty's Outdoor Sports Spectator Policies and Protocols, which went into effect on March 1, are as follows:
OUTDOOR SPORTS SPECTATOR POLICIES
- No fans or parents from visiting teams will be permitted at West Liberty University home events
- Spectators must follow all COVID safety protocols including wearing a mask and social distancing
- Game day staff will ensure that fans remain in compliance with COVID protocols throughout the event
- Anyone unable to wear their mask properly or who commits other violations of COVID protocols will be asked to leave the venue immediately
- Parking lots will not open until an hour before game time
- Tailgating in any form is strictly prohibited
- Facilities with gates will not open until 30 minutes before game time
- Pass lists will be employed at each venue
- No concessions will be served and spectators will not be permitted to bring food with them inside the venue. If you must eat, you will be required to leave the venue and return when you are finished
- Fans will be required to leave the facility immediately following the game or match. Interactions between fans and student-athletes is strictly prohibited
SOFTBALL
- Student-athletes will be provided two tickets for use by their immediate family
- No other fans will be permitted inside the gated WLU Softball Complex
MEN'S/WOMEN'S SOCCER
- Spectators will be limited to a maximum of 100
- Student-athletes will be provided two tickets for use by their immediate family
- A limited number of West Liberty students may also be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis up to the maximum of 100
MEN'S/WOMEN'S TENNIS
- No spectators will be permitted inside the gates of the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex
- A limited number of parents/students (maximum of 40) will be permitted to watch from the parking lot or grassy bank outside the complex
