ELKINS, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins scored twice in the second half here Friday to come from behind and hand West Liberty a 2-1 setback in Mountain East Conference men's soccer action at Nutttall Field.
Coach
Sean Regan's Hilltoppers (1-3) led for much of the afternoon after
Vitor Otsuka controlled a loose ball inside the Senators' (3-1) box and slotted it into the lower left corner of the cage in the 23rd minute.
West Liberty carried that lead well into the second half before D&E's James Gill delivered the equalizer in the 66th minute off an assist from Christian Carranza.
The score remained tied until the 81st minute when Yavi Ortiz pocketed the game-winner for the Senators, assisted by Sebastian Ongkowijaya.
Davis & Elkins outshot the Black and Gold by a 14-5 margin with 10 of the shots on net but Hilltopper netminder
Noah Underwood had a strong showing in the loss, turning aside 8 of the hosts' scoring attempts.
Jeremy Coste had 3 saves to earn the win in goal for the hosts.
Coach Regan and his Hilltoppers are back on the road next week with a Friday match at Concord. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. in Beckley, W.Va.
