BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – West Liberty University distance ace
Hannah Kemp has been selected as the Mountain East Conference's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the second time this season.
A junior from Bethesda, Ohio and the reigning MEC Runner of the Year, Kemp ran away from the field on Saturday to win the Carnegie Mellon University Invitational with ease. The All-Region standout was the only woman to break 19 minutes over the challenging 6,000-meter course at Pittsburgh's Schenley Park, gliding across the finish line in a time of 18:45.9.
More than 100 runners from 14 teams competed in the event.
Kemp was also selected as the MEC Runner of the Week for the week of Sept. 5-11 following her season-opening victory in the Bethany Invitational.
Kemp and her Hilltopper teammates are now focused on preparations for the 2021 MEC Cross Country Championships. West Liberty will host the event on Oct. 23 at Oglebay Resort. Kemp is the defending champion in the women's race.
