CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's soccer team lost a Mountain East Conference inter-divisional match to No. 7-ranked Charleston by a 4-1 tally here Sunday afternoon at the Welch Athletic Complex.

Sean Regan's Hilltoppers (4-7-0, 3-7-0) battled the defending national champion Golden Eagles (9-1-0, 8-1-0) on nearly even terms for the first 45 minutes, trailing just 2-1 at the break, only to see the hosts tack on a pair of insurance goals in the second half to conclude the scoring.
Adam Lynch scored the only goal for the Black and Gold, cashing in on a penalty kick awarded in the 43rd minute, while goalkeeper
Noah Underwood was charted with three saves in net.
Gabriel Rodriguez scored twice for UC while Joakim Ostvold added a goal and an assist.
The West Liberty men close out their non-conference schedule on the road Wednesday with a 5 p.m. match at California (Pa.).
