GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The West Liberty University baseball team came out on the short end of two one-run decisions here Saturday as Glenville State claimed both ends of a Mountain East Conference doubleheader at a sunny but chilly Sue Morris Complex.
Coach
Eric Burkle's Hilltoppers (3-15, 2-4) saw the host Pioneers (5-13, 3-3) come from behind for a 5-4 win in the first game before breaking up a late deadlock to escape with a 7-6 nod in the finale.
After Glenville scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-4 lead in the opener, WLU rallied in the top of the seventh but a bases-loaded strikeout ended the threat.
Tyler Ramsay drove in all four runs for the Hilltoppers with a pair of 2-run home runs to dead centerfield.
Dalton Davis singled twice and scored a couple of runs while
Jarrett Delbrugge also had a multi-hit game in a losing cause.
The second game was also a see-saw affair with West Liberty taking the lead on three separate occasions only to see the Pioneers pull it out at the end.
Coby Eckstein and
Bailey McGrath each drove in a run with a single and a double while Davis doubled and drove in a pair of runs.
Colton Coss also laced out a two-bagger for the Black and Gold.
The Hilltoppers make the short trek over to Buckhannon on Sunday for a noon doubleheader against West Virginia Wesleyan.
