WASHINGTON, Pa. – The West Liberty University baseball team split a Mountain East Conference doubleheader with UVa-Wise on Saturday at cold and windy Wild Things Park.

Eric Burkle's Hilltoppers (2-12, 1-1) rolled to a 10-1 win in the opener but the Cavaliers (7-12, 1-1) bounced back with a 21-2 victory in the finale.
Parker Dyson and
Mitch Viakley teamed up to hurl a 3-hit gem in the first game. Dyson worked the first six frames, scattering three singles while striking out nine to get the win. Viakley retired the side in order in the seventh, fanning two of the three batters he faced.
Colton Coss went 3-for-3 to pace a 9-hit attack for West Liberty.
Bailey McGrath chased home three runs with a single and double while
Coby Eckstein homered and singled to pick up two RBIs.
Tyler Ramsay chipped in with a two-run single and
Chad Matthus added a run-scoring double.
Virginia-Wise pounded out 25 hits off five WLU hurlers in the second game to earn the split. The Hilltoppers scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to avoid the shutout.
The West Liberty baseball team returns to Wild Things Park on Sunday for another MEC twinbill. The Hilltoppers and Concord are scheduled to play at 1 and 3:30 p.m.
