ELKINS, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's soccer team surrendered a couple of early goals here Wednesday night and couldn't fight their way back as Davis & Elkins pulled away to a 5-0 win under the lights at Nuttall Field.
Coach
Sean Regan's Hilltoppers (3-13-1, 3-11-1) found themselves in an early hole after the Senators (8-8-0, 7-8-0) got goals from Markus Just and James Gill only 90 seconds apart in the first 15 minutes of the match.
The West Liberty men regrouped in the back and were able to keep the hosts off the scoreboard for the rest of the half but were unable to mount any sustained pressure in the offensive end and trailed 2-0 at the break.
Gill added another goal in the 63rd minute to all but seal the deal and Davis & Elkins tacked on two more goals in the waning minutes to complete the scoring.
The Senators outshot the Hilltoppers by a 21-4 margin. Everton Cavalho had two saves in net for D&E to earn the shutout while
Jorn Hocter was credited with 8 saves in net for the Black and Gold.
West Liberty closes out the 2019 season on Sunday with a 1 p.m. match at Wheeling.
