Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Hilltoppers Fall to No. 10 Charleston

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The No. 10 University of Charleston's men's soccer team lived up to its Top 10 ranking here Sunday, pulling away to a 7-0 victory against a youthful West Liberty squad under brilliant sunshine at the West Family Athletic Complex.
The loss took none of the luster off a very special day on the university campus as a number of dignitaries, university administrators and student-athletes were on hand for a special dedication of the sparkling new facility – which also contains the Tim Weaver Memorial Track.
Donors Gary and Flip West and David K. and Ann Coffaro were then honored along with members of the Weaver family in a brief ceremony at midfield just before kickoff of the afternoon's soccer action.
Charleston (9-2-0, 9-0-0) and its talented veterans launched a virtual barrage at the WLU cage throughout the match against Coach Sean Regan's outgunned Hilltoppers (1-9-1, 1-8-1) but the Black and Gold didn't go down without a fight.
West Liberty keeper Noah Underwood had four saves in the first 11 minutes and four other shots by the high-powered UC attack sailed wide of the cage before the visitors finally got the ball into the net.
Williams N'Dah collected a deflected Christos Charalambous shot inside the 6 yard box and one-timed it just under the crossbar for a 1-0 Golden Eagle lead in the 14th minute.
Emil Rasmussen made it 2-0 in the 27th minute when he scored off a scrum just outside the 6 but the back-breaker came just before halftime when UC's San Bethell ripped a 25-yard laser into the top left corner, stopping the clock with just one second remaining in the half.
Charleston added four more goals in the second half to remain unbeaten in MEC play. The visitors outshot West Liberty, 25-0, and had a 14-0 edge in corner kicks. Underwood finished a busy afternoon with 9 saves.
The Hilltoppers close out their non-conference slate at home on Thursday with a 7:30 p.m. match against California (Pa.).
