ERIE, Pa. – The West Liberty University wrestling team rolled to three lopsided wins here Saturday as Coach
Mitch Smith's Hilltoppers dominated a quadrangular hosted by Penn State-Behrend.
After being credited with a 54-3 win against Alfred State, WLU handed Washington & Jefferson a 43-7 setback before closing out the afternoon with a 40-6 romp past the host Lions.
The Alfred State match was a brief affair as the New York squad forfeited nine of the 10 weight classes, pulling out a decision at 285 in the only bout that actually hit the mat.
Several Hilltopper grapplers impressed in the wins against Washington & Jefferson and Penn State-Behrend.
DeAndre Reed won both of his 141-pound matches with first-period falls, stopping W&J's Mike Nagy at 2:27 of their bout and scoring a 17-second flash pin against the hosts' Seth Cowan.
Corey Secrist (125) and
Josh Cornell (157) each collected a fall and a major decision while
Chance Morgan contributed a pair of wins by technical fall and decision.
Steven Slack (133) and
Austin Loew (197) also had pins during the Washington & Jefferson match while 149-pounder
Miles Mazik added a technical fall against PSU-Behrend.
The Hilltoppers return home to host nationally-ranked Notre Dame (Ohio) on Friday. First match is set for 6 p.m. at the ASRC.
