Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lady Hilltoppers Can't Get Past Concord

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's soccer team saw a strong effort go unrewarded on Senior Day here Sunday as Concord escaped with a 2-1 victory at the West Liberty Soccer Complex.
The Hilltoppers (3-8-2, 3-5-1) honored their six seniors – Sarah Bodnar, Michelle Bourkab, Madison Daubenspeck, Emily Evans, Lauren Hartnell and Briella Taylor – in a brief ceremony prior to the match.
Two of those seniors teamed up to give the upset-minded hosts a quick 1-0 lead less than six minutes into the match. Taylor set up the score with a high feed into the box and Hartnell headed it into the back of the net in the sixth minute.
The Mountain Lions (8-3-2, 6-2-1), who took over sole possession of second place in the MEC South with the win and have only one loss in their last seven matches, came up with the equalizer a few minutes later.
Concord striker Courtney Wallace became entangled with Hartnell during a battle for possession in front of the West Liberty goal and was able to slide the ball across the line in the 13th minute.
The score remained tied at intermission but the Mountain Lions tallied what proved to be the game-winner shortly after play resumed.
Elisha Robinson's shot into the box hit teammate Mira Kontio in the thigh and deflected into the net for a 2-1 Concord lead.
West Liberty controlled the run of play for most of the second half but couldn't get the ball past Concord keeper Katie Maher.
Concord had a 9-7 edge in shots for the day but the Hilltoppers had a significant 6-2 advantage in shots on goal. Maher stopped five of those six shots - four of them in the last 25 minutes - to earn the win.
The West Liberty women return to action on Thursday when they host Fairmont State in a crucial MEC North Division match. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at the West Liberty Soccer Complex.
