Box Score WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's soccer team dominated the run of play throughout here Wednesday but had to settle for a scoreless draw with Urbana in a Mountain East Conference match at the West Liberty Soccer Complex.
Coach
Barry Christmas's Hilltoppers (2-5-2, 1-5-2) launched more than 20 shots at the Blue Knights (1-7-1, 1-6-1) net but their efforts were not rewarded, thanks in large part to a stellar performance by Urbana keeper Katherine Beech.
The sophomore netminder frustrated the Black and Gold at nearly every turn, coming up with a season-high 11 saves – many of the spectacular variety.
The hard-luck Hilltoppers did get two shots past Beech but still weren't able to take the zero off their side of the scoreboard. Hannah Dragomir sent a shot off the crossbar in the 35th minute and
Thanna Oddo rang the post with another drive in the 76th minute.
West Liberty finished the match with a whopping 21-9 advantage in shots, including an 11-2 edge in shots on goal. The Hilltoppers' constant offensive pressure forced 8 corner kicks to just 2 for the visitors.
Lauren Hartnell posted the shutout in net for West Liberty, saving both shots the Blue Knights put on frame.
The WLU women will be idle over the weekend before returning to action on Tuesday with a 2 p.m. match at Charleston.
