WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's soccer team outshot Charleston here Saturday but couldn't find the net as the Golden Eagles escaped with a 2-0 win at the West Liberty Soccer Complex.
Coach
Barry Christmas's Hilltoppers (4-9-2, 3-9-2) had several early chances but it was Charleston (6-6-4, 5-5-4) that drew first blood when Claire Couturier finished off an assist from Alana Mikulis in the 27th minute.
The Golden Eagles nursed that narrow margin into the break but wasted little time getting some separation when play resumed as Mikulis set up Lyndsey Thompson for UC's second goal less than three minutes after the second half kickoff.
The Black and Gold outshot Charleston by a 5-3 margin over the final 45 minutes and had a 10-9 advantage in shots for the game but never got one past Golden Eagle netminder Zoe Zyta, who was charted with 4 saves to record the shutout.
The West Liberty women make their final road trip of the season on Wednesday when they head to Urbana for a 4 p.m. match.
