Hilltoppers Extend Unbeaten Streak

Box Score WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to six matches here Wednesday afternoon but had to settle for a scoreless draw with Concord in a Mountain East Conference match that went into double overtime at the West Liberty Soccer Complex.
Coach Barry Christmas' Hilltoppers (4-3-2, 4-1-2) dominated the run of play, forcing seven corner kicks and launching a staggering 25 shots but the ball never found its way into the Mountain Lion goal.
West Liberty – which has posted four wins to go along with a pair of scoreless draws in its last six matches – nearly came up with the game-winner during a sustained first-half surge.
Thanna Oddo got a shot past Concord (3-3-2, 3-2-2) netminder Emily Simpkins only to see the ball hit the post and bounce back into the box. Allie Roberts collected the rebound but her drive sailed just over the crossbar for a goal kick. Simpkins finished the afternoon with seven saves.
The visitors also had some scoring chances but WLU keeper Allie Warsaw proved more than equal to the task, charting six saves to earn the Hilltoppers' fifth shutout in the last six matches. West Liberty has surrendered only one goal in its last 580 minutes on the pitch.
The Black and Gold close out their lengthy homestand on Saturday with a crucial MEC showdown against league-leading West Virginia Wesleyan. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. at the West Liberty Soccer Complex.
