Box Score WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's soccer team saw its lengthy unbeaten streak come to an end here Friday afternoon as Notre Dame (Ohio) held on for a 2-0 win at the West Liberty Soccer Complex.
The aggressive Falcons (8-1-2, 7-1-2) kept play in the Hilltoppers' (5-4-3, 5-2-3) end of the pitch for much of the first half and finally broke through in the 31st minute.
Karla DiJohn played a ball into the box to Katarina Doncevic, who drove it into the left side of the cage for a 1-0 Notre Dame lead.
The backbreaker came just before intermission when DiJohn rifled a shot into the right corner of the net less than 30 seconds before the halftime buzzer.
West Liberty, which entered the match on an 8-game unbeaten streak, was unable to get a shot on goal in the second half as the Falcons completed the shutout.
Notre Dame finished the afternoon with a 17-4 edge in shots and a 6-0 advantage in corners. Hilltopper keeper Lauren Hartnell had 7 saves with Falcon netminder Sam Shoemaker being charted with a pair of stops.
The West Liberty women will try to rebound Sunday with a noon match at Urbana.
