Lady Hilltoppers Tune Up for MEC Tournament

Box Score ATHENS, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's soccer team tuned up for next week's Mountain East Conference Tournament on Saturday by battling Concord to a 1-1 draw in a mutual regular-season finale.
Coach Barry Christmas' Hilltoppers (6-7-5, 6-5-5) drew first blood when freshman Caitlin de Vries scored her first collegiate goal in the 35th minute, sending West Liberty into intermission with a 1-0 lead.
The host Mountain Lions (3-10-5, 3-8-5) came up with the equalizer in the 76th minute when Micharae Thompson finished off an assist from Joanna Aiello. Neither team scored in the two overtime periods and the match ended in a draw.
Concord outshot West Liberty by a 13-5 margin but Hilltopper netminder Allie Warsaw came up big with 6 saves.
West Liberty is the No. 4 seed in the MEC's postseason field and will travel to South Euclid, Ohio on Wednesday for an MEC semifinal against regular-season champion Notre Dame (14-1-2, 13-1-2). Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at the Falcons' Mueller Field.
