League-Leading Charleston Tops West Liberty Women

Box Score WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The University of Charleston's women's soccer team broke open a scoreless tie with three second-half goals here Saturday to hand West Liberty a 3-0 loss on Senior Day at the West Liberty Soccer Complex.
Coach Barry Christmas' Hilltoppers (6-5-3, 6-3-3) battled the Mountain East Conference-leading Golden Eagles (10-2-2, 10-1-1) to a virtual standstill through the first half that ended with neither team denting the scoreboard.
Charleston finally broke through in the 64th minute when Kelci Winters found Marieke Kramer on the left side of the six and Kramer guided the ball past West Liberty keeper Allie Warsaw for a 1-0 UC lead.
The Golden Eagles' Lyndsey Thompson added back-to-back goals in the 74th and 79th minutes to wrap up the scoring and put the game out of reach.
Charleston finished with a 12-6 edge in shots with UC keeper Zoe Zyta collecting five saves to earn the shutout. Warsaw finished with four saves in goal for the hosts.
Hilltopper seniors MacKenzie Ullman and Allie Roberts were honored in a brief ceremony prior to the final home game of their WLU careers.
West Liberty will try to get back on the winning track Thursday night when the Black and Gold make the short trek down Route 88 for a 7 p.m. match at Wheeling Jesuit.
