Box Score URBANA, Ohio – The West Liberty University women's soccer team surrendered a goal on the first shot of the game and Urbana keeper Taylor Gianangeli made it stand up as the host Blue Knights held on for a 1-0 win here Sundayafternoon.
Urbana (2-2, 1-1) drew first blood in the seventh minute when Savanna Thomas sent a perfect cross into the box to Taylor Greene, who rifled it into the net for an early 1-0 lead.
Even though coach Barry Christmas' Hilltoppers (0-3, 0-2) maintained good pressure throughout the match, that turned out to be the only goal of the game as the visitors were unable to get one past the Blue Knight netminder. West Liberty outshot the hosts by a 12-9 margin with half of those shots being on frame but Gianageli proved equal to the task, turning aside all 6 potential scores to earn the shutout and preserve the win.
The Lady Hilltoppers return home to host powerful Notre Dame (Ohio) on Thursday. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. at the West Liberty Soccer Complex.
